Improper use of Display Screen equipment can lead to Repetitive strain injuries, Cumulative Trauma disorders, Musculoskeletal disorders and head aches and pains.

The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations came into force in 1993 and states all employers must provide suitable health & safety information on DSE and workstation safety.

Employees are classed as a DSE users if they use DSE for 2 hours a day or if using DSE is integral to the job.

  • Introduction to DSE - What is DSE/VDU?
  • The Health and Safety Display Screen Equipment Regulations - What are important DSE definitions? Who are DSE 'Users'? What do employees and employers have to do by law? What is a risk assessment?
  • Effects of using DSE - What injuries are associated with DSE use? How can injuries be prevented?
  • Posture - How can poor posture lead to injury? What is correct working posture for DSE use?
  • Workstation - What is a workstation? What should a correct Workstation look like.
  • Eye damage - Can DSE use damage eyes? What should be done to avoid risks associated with DSE use and the eyes?
  • Portable DSE - Does the law cover laptops? How are laptops different to desktop computers.
  • Electrical Safety - What electrical safety issues need to be considered when using Display Screen Equipment?
  • Exercises - How can damage from DSE use be prevented by performing simple exercises?
